FOR WRITERS

WRITING ISN’T
A SECRET CLUB
BUT SOMETIMES IT FEELS LIKE ONE.
The truth is, there’s no single way to be a “real” writer. And yet, the publishing world, the online space, and even well-meaning writing communities can make it feel like the answers are locked behind a velvet rope. This page is here to cut through all of that. Whether you write for yourself, your readers, your future book, or your own peace of mind… there’s something for you here.

about the story course :
Story is a six-week interactive course that guides you through the process of naming, exploring, and writing your personal story with honesty and spiritual insight. Created by author Kristen LaValley, it offers a supportive space to reflect on your experiences and shape them into meaningful narratives.
what’s included:
60-Page Digital Workbook: Features weekly writing exercises, writing craft guidance, spiritual reflections, and shadow work prompts.
Weekly Zoom Sessions: Participate in live group calls, facilitated by Kristen using trauma-informed principles. The sessions are focused on unearthing your story, working through what comes up as you’re writing, and sharing your pieces - but only if you want!
Private Discord Community: Engage with fellow writers for support and connection throughout the course.
retreats :
Sometimes you need to step away from the noise and into a space designed for clarity, creativity, and connection. Kristen’s writing retreats are intimate, curated experiences for writers of all kinds—whether you're processing your story, shaping a manuscript, or simply trying to find your voice again.
Each retreat is a blend of guided workshops, spacious time for personal writing, and soul-soothing surroundings. Rooted in spiritual and emotional depth, these retreats are less about productivity and more about presence: coming home to your story, your voice, and yourself.

FAQ :
+ do I need to be a particularkind of writer to come?
Nope! Songwriters, memoir writers, fiction writers, and people who don’t identify as writers at all attended these workshops and retreats. The content is geared towards your own, personal story, but the practices and processes can be applied to any type of writing.
+ do I need to be a Christian to come?
Definitely not. You just have to be cool with a mixed group of people. The workshops and retreats draw all sorts - conservative Christians, progressive ones, agnostics, spiritually homeless. Faith is not a prerequisite and you won’t be evangelized to. Just happy you’re here.
+ i have a disability - how accessible are these retreats?
Every retreat is different and not every event will meet every need. Kristen is committed to making these retreats as accessible, inclusive, and welcoming as possible—for every kind of body, mind, and story.
While our retreats are often held in historic or remote spaces that come with physical limitations (like stairs or shared spaces), we are actively working to expand our retreat offerings to include locations that are more accessible to those with hearing, vision, or mobility challenges.
Current accommodations in place :
Neurodivergent needs: Low-pressure social time, flexible participation, quiet writing spaces, and optional sensory breaks
Hearing accommodations: Transcripts of workshop content and support for captioning where available
Vision support: Printed materials with readable fonts and digital versions available for screen readers
Mobility access: While not all current locations are fully accessible, we’re committed to sourcing venues with elevator access, walk-in showers, and accessible restrooms in future retreats
Accessibility is not one-size-fits-all. If you’re considering a retreat and want to talk through your needs or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
